Cyprus Contemporary Film Centre launches its first month of screenings this February
with an honorary tribute to one of the most respected Soviet film directors Andrei Tarkovsky.

The narrator, a man in his forties is laying on his deathbed while recollecting his past: his childhood, his mother, war, personal moments and reflections of recent Russian history. Tarkovsky combines historic documents and wartime footage, flashbacks, long shots and original poetry of his father Arseny Tarkovsky to illustrate his memories in perhaps one of his most personal films.

Based on a novel by Stanislaw Lem, Solaris centers on widowed psychologist Kris Kelvin, who is sent to a space station orbiting a water-dominated planet called Solaris to investigate the mysterious death of a doctor, as well as the mental problems plaguing the dwindling number of cosmonauts on the station.

A Stalker is a guide who takes people through ‘The Zone’, a place located outside an unidentified city, the result of an extra-terrestrial incursion. Inside The Zone there is ‘The Room’, which is said to grant ones deepest wish to anybody who enters it.

Tereza Kourra for Tribute to: Andrei Tarkovsky.
Cyprus Contemporary Film Centre will host architect Tereza Kourra on Friday the 24th of February,
right before the film screening of 'Stalker' in order to discuss and analyse her dissertation entitled
'My Autothanatography' which is also based on the analysis of Andrei Tarkovsky's films 'The Mirror' and 'Stalker'.
The lecture starts at 19:15 at ARTos Foundation, and it will be held in Greek with a free admission.
