The Cultural Workshop Ayion Omologiton, with the collaboration of The Embassy of Sweden in Cyprus, Cyprus Contemporary Film Center, Cynema Xanthis 3, Pantheon Cinema and The Cultural Services of The Ministry of Education and Culture are organizing a series of screenings to celebrate

the Centenary since the birth of Ingmar Bergman.

Elisabet Vogler is a famous actress. In the middle of a performance of Electra, she falls silent. Even prolonged treatment at a psychiatric clinic fails to make her speak. The doctor in charge suggests to her nurse, Alma, that she should spend some time in isolation on the coast with their patient. Faced by the obstinate yet also sympathetic silence of Elisabet, Alma begins to tell her more than she should.

As the film opens, a knight, Antonius Blok, and his squire, Jöns, have just returned from the Crusades to a Sweden being ravaged by the plague. As they journey toward his castle, the knight struggles to forestall Death in a game of chess. He encounters a trio of wandering players - Jof, Mia, and Skat - and conducts them through the forest to avoid the plague.

Professor Isak Borg, 78, is summoned from his home in Stockholm to the university of Lund in southern Sweden to receive an honorary doctorate for his services to science. He travels there with his daughter-in-law, who feels resentful toward him because his son, her husband, displays all the egotistical traits of the old man and does not want to have children. They encounter three hikers and take them along in the car with them to Lund. While visiting his family's former summer house, Borg is assailed by nightmares in which his failings are brought home to him

A Swedish cathedral town at the beginning of the 20th century. There is a theatre valued by all, a university heavy with tradition, a large and mighty minster. The town's popular theatre was bought in the middle of the 19th century by a wealthy businessman, Oscar Ekdahl. At the time the film begins Helena Ekdahl is a widow, familiar with her role as head of the noisy Ekdahl family. She has handed the management of the theatre over to her eldest son and his wife. At first the story is chiefly about the Ekdahls and their troupe of actors, and everything is fairly idyllic. By degrees it takes in the cathedral and its bishop, Edvard Vergerus.

In the film he is eighty-five years old, having spent more than sixty of those years directing. Now, for the first time, he shows us his world on the desolate and mysterious Baltic island of Fårö. Viewers get to step through the blue gate that bears the notice - in Swedish, of course - "Private Area. Beware of Dog". No dog has lived there, though, since Liv Ullmann's dachshund left the place over thirty years ago. But that text says that here lives a man who wants to be left alone. A man whose only company is the sea and his own demons.

She decides to visit Johan at his old summer house in the western province of Dalarna. And so, one beautiful autumn day, there she is, beside his reclining chair, waking him with a light kiss. Staying at a cottage on the property are Johan's son Henrik and Henrik's daughter Karin.

Harry is a young errand boy in a crockery warehouse. When by chance he meets Monika, a wild erotic girl working in a neighboring grocer's shop, he is immediately infatuated. Monika has a quarrel with her father and decides to “borrow” a motor boat for a holiday with Harry in the archipelago outside Stockholm.
